Famous quote from one of the New York paddlers after we beat them on the first day in the first race by over a boat " What did you guys do ?....put a motor on that thing ? "

 LoL

1 other thing I saw on the first day was the chinese paddlers all shaving down their paddles because they were too wide and not to spec .If you look at the picture of the team w/ white jerseys take a look at their blades.....look a little wider to me

Nope, that's one of the awesome things about the Worlds...but you have to sign a waiver saying that you can swim at least 50m without assistance

Seeing the best in the world is another perk... :D

Standing beside the Germans, Toronto national paddlers, and other countries (and looking upwards) is another fun thing as well...

I was thinking the same thing about that German team when I saw that pic.  But I guess it goes to show that it is all relative ... somehow they made that boat move.

Having a 240 plus man down and taking out three other dudes for about 8 strokes or so strokes definately slows the boat down a bit.  This was our very first race of the event and we were lucky to get this pic.  It happened so quick but you have to keep paddling.

Did any other team have issues with the foot rests in Toronto?

I didn't really have any problems w/ them .Alot of the problem ,I found, depended on the type of footwear you were useing . I had a pair of lace -up water shoes ( kind of like a runner) that I tried and they felt like they were going to slip so I switched to a slip-on water shoe ( cheap pair) w/ a good flexible rubber sole and that seemed to solve the problem .

Like paddles I have different shoes I use for different boats . The SRS's  have that crappy angle iron footbace and I am 5' 10.5" and I found the brace was either too close or too far away.It was like designed for guys over 6 feet or under 5' 7" .

i didn't particularly like the footbraces, as my bare feet would tend to slip.  i was lucky in most races that the person in front of me had waxed up the braces.  :)

yeah that was weird . I got off the boat and my butt & my shoes had wax all over them and I wasn't useing any wax .....  :?

We used wax on the foot braces after the fall.  I like the Victoria race boats the best of any I have been on.  The Champion boats were pretty nice too ... there was a huge difference between the SRS and Champion boat in Toronto.  You would think at an event like that everyone would be racing in the same boats regardless of being men, women or mixed.

I never got to use the champion boats ,only the srs . My fav by far is the beloved BUK .......

By far the best decision this creek ever made was to purchase them .Now just take care of them everyone

i too prefer the BUKs, but the SRS boats come a close second.  I think the reason i liked the footbraces where they were is because of my height.  they were perfectly positioned for both my feet (i paddle with both feet forward).
i had been under the impression that we'd be using BUKs in toronto, and was a little surprised when i found out we weren't.  however, i have no complaints about the boats that we were using, aside from the not-very-secure method of attatching the heads to the boat.....
