What I wouldn't give to be a part of that experience! Yeah, me too! Maybe one year I'll be good 'enuf (fit, fast, light, strong, skillled ... take your pick of one or more of the preceeding not-yet/un-obtaniums) to make the cut. Oh, yeah ... and rich (or at least "non poor"), too ... Yeah, right!   *********** What a tightly-packed - and confusing! - race sched! Do they really plan to run 5-minute race intervals? Spectating willl be like watching the Molson Indy (which Hogtown still has, but not us!) ... no time to go fer a brown pop ... or even a p*ss ... might miss something!! *********** Let's not forget the National Team Trials at Welland, Aug 8th & 9th, the week before the CCWCs. Some (or all?) of the FCRCC teams are also entered in the NTTs (don't know if anyone else from here is entered, tho'). In some ways, I suspect this is as (if not more) important to many crews than the CCWC ... 'cuz the NTT is a big part of the crew selection process for the Offiical Team Canuck entry to the IDBF DB Worlds (which alternate year-by-year with the CCWC) next year down in Oz. I'm not sure of exactly how much the NTT figures in the process - but the FCRCC guys I know are all really stoked about it. Only thing I can find on the NTT is at http://www.dragonboatcanada.org/ntt.html - and that's just the blank entry forms, and the info bulletin put out mid-May. Can't seem to find any other info about the races, the venue, etc., on the DBC site. And "Welland National Watersport Center" (& variations thereof) doesn't give anything useful on Google, etc., nor did I find an address of the WNWC for use on Google Maps, Mapquest, etc. (may I grumble & grouch fer 'af-a-mo' ... beats me why someone - in this case DB Canada - bothers to put up a web site, then doesn't keep it up to date!!  And on that sh** list too - hello, FCRCC web site??  :P Sigh ...) So good luck - especially to all our local folks: FCRCC, Pac Reach, Roli, Laoyam & St'Keya. Let 'em eat yer spray, boys & girls!! The Left Coast RULES ... I didn't make the cut, plain & simple - wasn't quite good enough a water-stabber (in GM time trials), that's all. Being on the tag end of a month-plus cruddy flu didn't help ... but I gotta train better & smarter, next year! (tho' yes, I'd certainly still prefer to be un-poor ... ) NTT : We are up on tuesday PREMIER 9am .. 1000 meter .. men 11 am ....200 meter .....men 1pm ......200 meter.... mixed 3 pm.....500 meter ...men 5 pm .....500 meter.... mixed Weds ...Roli hits the water at the NTT in the senior division hopes this helps and thx for the support people !! And I know the FCRCC GrandMasters are racing on Tues or Weds (a couple of my teamies are on the GMs) in the NTT, for a chance to be the Canuck GM team for Oz 2007. They are not staying over as a team (tho' some members are, on the Roli Seniors) for the CCWC, however. ************ YOW!! 1 day, 5 races (one a 1K), 2 hours between, 5 warm-ups ... hmmm ... and just how hot did someone say it was going to be back there next week? 46 ºC ??? So where does KJ say you should plug in the IV water tube?? DBC still should post the full grid on their web site! How else are we to know whom (of the OTHER teams) to lay a hex on, at the annointed hours? Race site photos, maps (the WNWC is a "national" place, after all - it says so right in the name), maybe a street address would be nice. Yet Bulletin 2 is still "coming soon", when the dance is less than a week away? Faugh! Hate to admit it, but the CCWC web site actualy was useful, in that sense anyway. (Ouch!! That was painful, saying something nice-ish - even if back-handed - about Hogtown ...) Bring back pix (as well as medals & Tall Tales), you guys!! DBW seems to have LOTS of space! LUCK!  D Title: Re: NTTs Post by: Colossus on August 03, 2006, 10:23:33 AM I didn't make the cut, plain & simple - wasn't quite good enough a water-stabber (in GM time trials), that's all. Being on the tag end of a month-plus cruddy flu didn't help ... but I gotta train better & smarter, next year! i guess i have zero clue who you are in person. lol having the flu sucks, just like being perpetually "injured". :?Quote (tho' yes, I'd certainly still prefer to be un-poor ... ) mmmm wads of cash would be nice.......Quote YOW!! 1 day, 5 races (one a 1K), 2 hours between, 5 warm-ups ... hmmm ... and just how hot did someone say it was going to be back there next week? 46 ºC ??? i raced 5 races on the last day of alcan.... and lost 7lbs over the weekend. maybe it'll help for the CCs  but yeah, not looking forward to the blistering heat.So where does KJ say you should plug in the IV water tube?? Just as a note of interest. The Over 50 category is the most hotly contested group. Six teams, 3 Eastern two Western (FCRCC and St'kye from Victoria) all shooting for one spot in Oz in 2007. 8 members from the Roli Seniors, and the rest from a collection of old geezers from the Creek. Coaches are Pat Barker and Kate Zubick. We get one shot at qualifying. No heats, just one shot. The False Creek teams are:
NTT FCRCC Grand Masters (Over 50) mixed FCRCC Men and Mixed in Premier Roli Canada Masters (over 40) mixed WCC FCRCC Men/Mixed/Women in Premier Roli Canada Masters Mixed Pacific Reach Masters Mixed Everyone in the FCRCC should be very proud of these paddlers. Not ony have the paddlers worked very hard, but have ponied up some hard cash to get to these competitions. Good Luck to all teams. Make the snot fly!i Title: UNOFFICIAL NTT results.... Post by: Keen Man on August 09, 2006, 11:40:40 AM Found this on an Eastern dragon boat forum....
In the 1000 open ,Toronto just edged out FCRCC by less that 1/2 a second I believe .Time was around mid 3.40's .In the 500 again TO just edged out FCRCC at the finish w/ a mid 1.40 something .The 200 it appeared FCRCC spun their wheels on the start and TO edged them out by 4 seats maybe,To had a 40 and FCRCC was a 42 Awesome races to watch .Fcrcc gave them 1 heck of a race and earned some respect I think .They were so close coming down the course and at times it was back and forth .Congrats to both teams for jobs well done The Premier mixed was the same w/ TO just barely pulling it off on FCRCC at the finish and both races it was hard to tell who won . The national womens team rocked, they were very strong and solid Some very fast times today ,seniors up tomorrow Title: Re: 2006 Club Crews World Championships - Race Grid & Team List Post by: Colossus on August 10, 2006, 07:34:41 PM from what i recall (should have taken note of the results, or photographed the papers or something) of the premier men's...
1000m: TO - 3:43, FCRCC - 3:44 (fraction of a second difference) 200m: TO - 0:41, FCRCC - 0:42 (i think just about a full second. 3-4 seats behind TO) 500m: TO - 1:42, FCRCC - 1:43 (i can't remember the exact #s) Premier Mixed: almost identical times for both the 200m and 500m, with a smaller time gap in the 200m. some exciting and VERY close races. looking forward to the CCs which start tomorrow morning. msn(u) Title: Re: 2006 Club Crews World Championships - Race Grid & Team List Post by: DBWTim on August 11, 2006, 11:14:54 AM Just got a text message that I would like to share with everyone...
"FCRCC mixed came first overall in 200m mixed" Title: Re: 2006 Club Crews World Championships - Race Grid & Team List Post by: Magnum on August 11, 2006, 02:29:55 PM Pacific Reach also took Bronze today in Senior Mixed 200 meters.
Title: Re: 2006 Club Crews World Championships - Race Grid & Team List Post by: Colossus on August 11, 2006, 05:19:37 PM Just got a text message that I would like to share with everyone... to add on that, fcrcc women came in 2nd behind montreal, and fcrcc men came first. :D"FCRCC mixed came first overall in 200m mixed" Title: CCWC controversy Post by: Colossus on August 12, 2006, 06:37:59 PM ah, what would a dragonboat festival be without a little controversy? the rules for turning and how to take turns in the 2000m are kind of vague as they are written, and to confuse things even more, the race officials held a pre-race meeting for the steers/drummers giving them rules that weren't really following the written rules to the "T", but these rules were repeated and stressed upon the attendees repeatedly as being the way the race was to be run.
the result? fcrcc mens' dragon head caught macau mens' dragon tail as macau cut them off for a better line half-way through the final turn. that bump dislodged the dragon head from fcrcc's boat, as well as disqualifying them. *sigh* ain't life fun? :) Title: Re: 2006 Club Crews World Championships - Race Grid & Team List Post by: paddleboy on August 12, 2006, 09:53:24 PM FCRCC pretty much has cleaned up at the club crews so far in mens & mixed . Roli today was second bringing home silver in the 500 beating out Eat Trout who took third and Pacific Reach was 4th .Roli went a 1.59 to PR's 2.01 .Layoam swept the jr's pretty much dominating every event . In the 2000 Roli was 3rd and Reach was 6 th .FCRCC went 1st in their heat but was protested after a collision w/ China so not sure where it sits at this point as they were disqualified but were protesting the decision
This has been a awesome showing for the west and for Canada .Both my teams rocked and we are bringing home lots of cups and hardware ! Title: Re: 2006 Club Crews World Championships - Race Grid & Team List Post by: Luke on August 12, 2006, 10:33:02 PM kudos to Laoyam,
and of course to Pac Reach, and all the other western teams. w/e happened to Kai? Title: Re: 2006 Club Crews World Championships - Race Grid & Team List Post by: coach_of_little_people on August 13, 2006, 07:17:23 AM Great work to all the teams from Canada! It's evident that the Western teams are narrowing the gap between the Eastern teams but it's still a work in progress.
Hey Paddleboy, no offense to Pacific Reach b/c they are a great team, but were they really your main competition? I heard that there were bigger "fish" in the water out there like "Eat Trout" and the Canadian Senior DB team!?? IMHO, focusing on the bigger fish will take you further...and there are some really big ones out in the East! Title: Re: 2006 Club Crews World Championships - Race Grid & Team List Post by: paddleboy on August 13, 2006, 08:45:27 AM Yes your right .The senior division had some very tough competitors such as the Cdn Senior d/b club ( pretty much the national senior team that went to Berlin worlds and ranked #1 & 2 in distance ) and Eat Trout ( set the fastest 500 time at the North American Clubs Crews last yr) so we had our work cut out for us .
In the 200 meter it was The Cdn Snr's first and then Eat Trout and then the third was hard to tell who won between Roli and Pac Reach but after photo review it was determined Pac Reach . In the 500 it was Cdn Senior and then Roli followed by Eat Trout and then Pac Reach . That had to of been Roli's best race ever as we were determined to win this one and we just unloaded on the start and got out in front and just stayed on the power and in the end we ended up w/ silver(second ) in the 500 beating Eat Trout by at least 1/2 a boat .The boat just flew....... it was an awesome race Congrats to all the Western teams from BC ...we all rocked and showed that the west truely has what it takes to win at the world level Title: Re: 2006 Club Crews World Championships - Race Grid & Team List Post by: paddleboy on August 13, 2006, 08:53:11 AM Not sure where Kai ended up but they weren't in the premier finals from what I remember ( could be wrong)...too bad as I know they had their hearts set on it.The competition at the worlds this time around is extremely tough.Probably the toughest ever as N. America brought alot of very tough teams to this event and teams that dominated last time at Cape Town were easily taken out this time around .
Title: Re: 2006 Club Crews World Championships - Race Grid & Team List Post by: Swordfish on August 13, 2006, 05:09:05 PM Results are finally being posted on the CCWC page. I've copied and pasted the results for the Grand Finals only and posted them here (http://www.swordfishdragonboat.ca/ccwc.htm). Since the site doesn't say which races are the finals, I've had to cross reference with the Event Schedule. If there's any mistakes, please let me know.
Good work to all the teams from the West Coast! Title: Re: 2006 Club Crews World Championships - Race Grid & Team List Post by: paddleboy on August 14, 2006, 12:39:01 PM Another blunder for Roli
Turns out in the 2000 meter Roli was 3rd and their medals were given to the aussies and they were not able to get them back so they issued Roli w/ generic bronzes last night Title: Re: 2006 Club Crews World Championships - Race Grid & Team List Post by: Raging Moose on August 16, 2006, 08:28:37 AM Results are finally being posted on the CCWC page. I've copied and pasted the results for the Grand Finals only and posted them here (http://www.swordfishdragonboat.ca/ccwc.htm). Since the site doesn't say which races are the finals, I've had to cross reference with the Event Schedule. If there's any mistakes, please let me know. Anyway, i have to say that FC is quite impressive. Congrats to all the west coast teams. I'm glad a Canadian team won instead of anyone else. It was definitely a great weekend! I still can't believe the stroke rate of the Macau and Chinese teams! Title: Re: 2006 Club Crews World Championships - Race Grid & Team List Post by: paddleboy on August 16, 2006, 10:39:30 AM Thx sun .Speaking for myself ... FCRCC is a awesome team (mens, mixed, women) to be a part of and we are a very close bunch and train very hard to get to where we are . We are very supportive of each other and it shows in their performance as a team .... hopefully the team will continue to thrive and continue w/ success .
Yeah Teams !! Also I got the chance to be a part of FCRCC-Roli ... a very cool relaxed team ( except for me,lol) .They worked their butts off before going into the club crews making changes and learning from mistakes and doing the NTT was the best decision as we learned alot before they headed to the CCWC and as you can see the slight changes paid off . Title: Re: 2006 Club Crews World Championships Post by: alcanranker on August 18, 2006, 09:39:47 AM The officials just updated the results on official CCWC website. For those that did not believe paddleboy and others, it is official Roli was 3rd in the 2000m. Fair and square :D.
Roli worked hard and did what was required when required, they deserve every medal they got. FCRCC was awesome, too bad they played bumper cars with Macau in the 2000m since they may have walked away with another gold. Overall a very well run event, everyone should be proud (every BC based team came home with some hardware, YAY). Back to analyzing the Victoria race grid     |
