Title: Paddlers needed for Kent/Seattle races Post by: gunghaggis on July 09, 2006, 11:02:57 AM There will be 3 Canadian teams at the 2006 Kent Cornucopia Days Dragon Boat Races.
Gung Haggis Fat Choy, False Creek Grand Dragons and Starbucks. Divisions are Mixed Comp, Mixed Rec, and Women's - We are Mixed Rec. We have 3 empty seats on Gung Haggis Fat Choy, if you would like to come paddle on a clean freshwater lake, in an idyllic park setting, surrounded by resort homes. Check out www.seattledragonboatraces.com (http://www.seattledragonboatraces.com) This is the 6th annual race for Kent/Seattle on Lake Meridien - just south of SeaTac airport. This will be my 4th time at the races - it's lots of fun. There is a bbq after the races for $3 US. Minimum of 3 races per team, most likely 4, perhaps even 5. Last time I raced at Kent, I also steered for Wasabi Team Huge - for a total of 7 races that day. In 2002, I brought Photog with me, + 2 rookies and we became "paddle sluts" joining Tacoma DBA and Portland's Multnohmah Canoe Club, and each declaring medals at the border. Check out our team website http://www.gunghaggisfatchoy.com/blog/_archives/2006/3/29/1847817.html (http://www.gunghaggisfatchoy.com/blog/_archives/2006/3/29/1847817.html) Go visit the Kent Cornucopia Days Fair in Downtown Kent, after the races. It's a very American small-town style fair with amusement rides, street stalls, rock and roll revival and country music, + Elvis impersonators. Lots of fun. We now have a full team minus one drop-out. The team includes paddlers from Gung Haggis, Scaly Jusitice, Fluid Motion, 39th Brigade Army, Sweet and Sour Dragonballs... and maybe we will be supplemented by a little Portland Wasbi or Tacoma DBA. So... one seat left if anybody wants to make new friends. We LOVE our American friends, and look forward to hanging out with Tacoma DBA, who have told us NOT to bring any food... Yum, Yum...  TDBA is a friendly team, and I have always enjoyed paddling with them, and I love their pioneering efforts to develop the "Dragon Boat Barrel Racing" concept. Next race after Kent/ Seattle is..... Vernon! Fresh clean clear Kalamalka Lake - here we come! |
