I also know that there are plans to have a big screen TV set up so you can watch the races ... I'm just know sure if it's during the actual races or at the gathering later that evening.

For those Synergy teams ... which team names are you going to go by? Synergy 1 and 2? I know of all the names used but don't want to offend someone if I guess wrong. I just need to know - that way we call tell them apart for races grids and stuff.

Thanks
  :D

Will there be a FEMALE  - DRAG-ON contest this year?

I think it would be fun to see the women dress up in "drag" for the special contest.
Just to balance out the gender equity issues and ensure that female dragsters can be equally appreciated to strut their stuff.

I noticed after the races last year, that there was an Elvis Impersonator in one of the Hotel lounges.
Maybe female dragsters could dress up as Elvis?

Hmm, I'm not sure I like the idea of a 2 day event. I quite enjoyed going up to Harrison for one day of paddling. Going back and forth over two days or staying overnight is a different question. Oh well, I'm more into outrigger these days so my point of view may be vastly different from the majority of dragon boaters.

I'm quite local to Harrison (Abbotsford) so it's not as big of a deal to me to have a 2 day event and have to worry about accomodations or a long commute. In fact, I was really excited to hear that it may be in the works! Harrison was one of my favorite regatta's last year, so a 2 day event should be 2x the fun, right?

I would have to agree with brainiac on this.  I think it would be advisable for you to survey the teams attending this year's event and see what level of support you would have for a two day event.  For the teams coming from Vancouver, they may not want to drive out to Harrison and back (2 hours each way) two days in a row and staying at the Harrison Hot Springs hotel may mean not attending another "away" festival.  Also, are there enough accomodations if 30 or 40 teams want to stay overnight?

We need good one day events and from all accounts, the Fraser Valley festival meets this standard.  I personally wish that the Taiwanese festival had remained a one day event as I don't feel it is a very good two day event.

Unless you get over a threshold number of teams (40, 50?), what is the point of having a two day festival?  If you have a small number of teams, you could be racing the same team 3 or 4 times over the course of the two days.  I'm not sure that is a big attraction especially if you're a novice boat and you're racing a top rec or comp team.

StraightLine.

I agree one day is much preferred......dragonboating takes up a lot of weekends during the summer and the costs for accommodations, ferries, registration etc adds up.....even with the campsites and beach areas, one of the attractions of Harrison is it being one day...if Richmond was another weekend we would have signed up for that festival as well

think a survey to those teams who participated after the festival is a great idea

Harrison is looking at the possibility of a keeping it as a one day event or moving it to a two day event but nothing is final yet.  If we move to a two day event we promise to have something new to offer (we have an idea in the works :D!) There are tons of possibilities without causing too much trouble for anyone.  The good thing about our Fraser Valley Dragon Boat Club is we try and push the envelope to come up with something new every year to make it fun for new and returning teams.  We're working hard on the Survivor Team Challenge (Based on the TV series Survivor).  Although I've been kept in the dark as Sudden Impact will participate (hence the Challenge has been offered ) from what I've hear - paddling and getting out of the boat to do something - sounds like fun.

No worries as I know that the teams coming to our event are very important to us so any decision to make it a two day event will not be made without every possibility explored.  I'll have to talk to the prez - see where we stand.

ok everyone , i think there is way too much exitement here!! FVDBC has not even disscussed this at exec. level ,and the idea of a 2 day festival ,would be to incorporate our "company corporate challenge"event, which we run in june saving us time and money ,running both events on the same w/end

So, your comments are noted , but lets not put the "cart before the horse" and close this thread .

thanks for your concern and understanding
