Title: Mens & Womens Races for Taiwanese Festival
Post by: BernMan on August 30, 2005, 02:36:11 PM
So is there any team out there that doesn't have enough to form their own Mens & Womens teams that is willing to merge with another team? Unless you are one of the Synergy teams chances are you don't have enough. Is there any interest? Lets talk about it by way of PM or post. Either way works for me. My crew is a recreational crew but with their hearts in the right places. Maybe by way of a merger they may turn it up a notch too! Afterall there is money to be won!

I am asking for this without the consent of my team but the way I see it forget the money prize and just let the teams form just because. In other words don't charge to enter the mens or womens heats but just race to compare. Sort of like a bragging rights kinda thing without the big players from the comp teams that are usually in either mens or womens heats.

Bragging rights, nah...

I just think that the teams should race for the experience. Could you imagine if we had a race of 6 boats in each the mens and womens races? This would give those that normally wouldn't do a unisex race a chance for the experience.

I don't understand why people are so afraid to join in a unisex race anyways?

Probably because they are intimidated by the False Creek's or the Pacific Reach's or the Roli's teams of men and women. Well last time I checked they weren't around for this coming weekend's races. So now would be a good time to compare yourselves with other teams who don't normally field teams of men or women crews and race against them!

BTW Phat Phish is still looking to merge. Any team out there got the urge to merge and form a men's and women's team for this weekend?

Whatever... I still don't personally understand the fear. Every one of those "good" paddlers had to go beyond their comfort level in order to become competitive. I guess that's why there will always be the divisions between those that are competitive and those that are recreational!

Good luck to all the teams at the Taiwanese Festival.
