Title: Butt sores... ouch!
Post by: Sun on July 08, 2005, 06:10:09 AM
so.. do you get them? you know, the sore you get from a long practice or racing, where one side of your ass (paddle side) is ripped to shreds, leaving a nice big sore that stings like a bitch when you shower? what's the best oitment to use?

yes a butt pad would help, but it makes you look like a sissy.. hehe jk! it's more manly to scream like a little girl in the shower!  msn(:'()

My butt's pretty sore too after practice. Deep, gentle butt massages by the significant other works wonders!      :silenced:

i have no ointment but here are a few preventative measures you can take:

1) bandage up the "sensitive" area. that way (1) no one will see the padding and (2) no wounds! use guaze.

2) wear "reinforced" paddling pants/shorts. i know ppl who wear 'em and seems to work for them

of course, you can always "take it like a man/woman."  what's dragonboating w/o the battle scars?  :D

Try the Burn Water Turtle butt shorts or just use cycling shorts, that way you stay protected and no one really sees them, so you don't risk looking like a sissy!
If you do have a sore, use the adhesive bandages from Band-Aid-they cover the entire wound, form a protective white goo on the open wound and last for a week!

I saw some cute little shorts at the Nanaimo festival that I am going to buy when my payment goes through on my credit card!

oh yeah village elder, it's the material of your shorts sometimes. the ones with mesh inside are the worst! you wear boxers when you paddle? don't they get all soggy and give you shrinkage? lol

hmm.. good idea! but i don't think cycling shorts have the padding in the right places. will check out burn water... if they ever come to the east coast. last time i saw them was 2 years ago! oh wait.. website... :P

I would recommend only dating within the boat........or buying a special bandaid called "Advanced Healing" by Johnson and Johnson. Now if they would only give my team their sponsorship!!!!

Title: a tattoo will work
Post by: QNFFT6 on August 10, 2005, 02:09:48 AM
A tattoo seems to ward off the dreaded dragonboat butt.  The evidence is hard to dispute:

While saving up for that costly tattoo; try bagbalm before and after.  Not as sexy as a personal lube, butt it does work!!

Advanced Healing rocks, before and after. Expensive though!

If you aren't yet 'opened up' it's amazing what a little Vaseline will do. Not enough to wreck your clothes, just smear a little on the trouble areas before practice. Don't knock it till you try it.

Title: this thread cracks me up
Post by: Ken on August 11, 2005, 03:06:26 PM
or is it my crack has a thread???

anyways a couple of other suggestions to prevent your butt cheeks bleeding through your khakis:

body glide: a non petroleum based anti chaffe.  apply like anti perspirant to desired areas.  used by many endurance athletes- ofthen to prevent nipple chaffe.

use a double layerd short.  birdies board shorts, only available in HI as far as i know.  the seat is a double layer so that the fabric rubs against each other instead of against your skin.  used by some outrigger paddler friends of mine.  i've not had a butt scab since.  you can always wear two layers of nylon shorts that don't bind together.

Just a thought on butt sores, you could always trying a regular pair of underwear that fits.

one product line you might consider is the Under Armour line of ginch.  For the men folk out there the compression ginch is great for paddling.  They make a ladies style that is comparable.  http://www.underarmour.com I believe is the website

the vaseline is to be applied to prevent chafing?

my buttpad doesn't work all the time, so it's always polysporin and a bandaid, though i'll try the vaseline idea if it'll prevent the problem

Paddleho's right. Vaseline is only good if the sore hasn't opened up yet.

if you take a page from Lance Armstrong's book (and all other professional cyclists).  They use Vaseline, but they don't put it on lightly.  They smear it on with great big gobs.

Course, you don't have a Dboat seat up your crack, so this could be different.  Or do you?

what's funny is I haven't even seen the episode yet where this one came from.

I'm trying to figure out how on Earth they managed to write this one in.  Funny as hell

btw if anyone thinks this avatar is a bit racy, just remember it's not the only avatar around here showing a little bum.

i got a pair of under armour as someone suggested here and it works great! no more chafing! a bit expensive, but worth the price.

Strange... I picked up a couple pairs of Nike Pro dri-fit compression boxer briefs and wore them under my nylon board shorts in Kelowna and still got sores after only one race without my buttpad. This bites man... buttpads all the way for me

i checked out the underarmour at cyclone taylor recently, it didn't really seem like anything extraordinary, but then what can you really expect from ginch
