Playing Devil's Advocate again... let's see... a mixed fleet of Buk's and Gemini's or a full fleet of Gemini's. I have a feeling that we would more likely see the latter. They could always rent the BuK's from Burnaby and Delta...but why would they pay money to rent and transport boats when they have their own boats sitting in the water already? Would I like to see BuK's in False Creek? Sure. Do I expect to see them? I think I'd rather buy a Lotto6/49 ticket.. my chances are better. Title: The BUK's Are here ! and Much More Post by: pullingwater on June 02, 2005, 09:29:16 AM I think that is the idea -Canoe Racing BC has secured three years of funding to bring in six BUK for the Sprint clubs. Right now four boat are on their way - two are placed in Burnaby and Delta. The other two will either go to sprint clubs in Nanaimo or in the interior. With all six here - I think we all hope they will go to Alcan and other regattas.
A major annoucement will be appearing but these boats are to try to help set up a high school dragonboat league in the lower mainland and other parts of BC. Maybe one day Dragon boating will be part of the school curriculum - what a huge vision to shoot for ! Canoe Racing BC - most of you may not be famialiar with is the provincial sport body for sprint kayak /canoe - olympic stuff ! . Their coaches are NCCP leveled and their experience in racing and sprinting will be a huge addition to the sport of Dragonboating. Title: THE FIRST BUKS ARE HERE ! Is this only because the Canadian Canoe Association to which BC Canoe Racing is affiliated, wants to take over control of dragon boating from Dragon Boat Canada. At least that is what is going on at the world level. The CCA recently reported their membership rose from around 19k to 30k in the space of one year.... that is just the canoe clubs back east claiming statistics of people dragon boating out of CCA clubs, so they can keep getting more money from Sport Canada. Meanwhile, Dragon Boating gets not one cent while canoeing gets an office in Ottawa, national coaches, paid full time executive director and other staff. Is there some other way to view the situation ? Title: Re: The BUK's Are here ! and Much More Post by: Photog on June 02, 2005, 12:42:53 PM I agree with Chaos here with the lotto ticket.

Quote from: websters online Curriculum: 1 : the courses offered by an educational institution 2 : a set of courses constituting an area of specialization Are you looking to see it as a full on course, or just a 1 or 2 day class in PE? Title: THE FIRST BUKS ARE HERE ! Post by: Lethal Weapon on June 02, 2005, 01:29:03 PM Dragonboat Canada is offering Level I Certification for Coaches who take the NCCP Level A course. This same course is offered through out Canada (west and east). Its a one day course (should be 2 days) that covers all the aspects and techniques of coaching a novice team. Combined with the NCCP Level A, it offers an excellent foundation for new coaches (and the older ones..) offering updated methods and strategies for coaching. While the NCCP is generalized for all coaches for any sport the DB Technical I is for DB only and that , with 20 hours of DB coaching and soem asssignments and program creation, will get you cerftified as as level I DB coach. its a step in the right direction and will give DB a more recognized name in Canoe sports.
