Title: 2008 beijin Olympics Post by: meowzers on September 06, 2004, 09:59:50 AM 4 more years til this world event..but i heard that Beigin is going to include Dragonboating in their program..demonstration or not it's the first step... to the possible
"The Executive Committee and Council have discussed at length the IDBF policy and position regarding recognition by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) of the sport, and the IDBF as its world governing body and the possible inclusion of dragon boat racing in the programme of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. With regard to recognition of dragon boating by the IOC, this first involves gaining the acceptance of the IOC, that dragon boating is a sport, followed by IOC recognition of the IDBF as the world governing body for the sport. This process contains an IOC prerequisite that a sport must have at least 70 Members in its world governing body before it can be accepted as a candidate for inclusion in the programme of the Olympic games." http://home.tiscali.nl/drakeboot/favorite.htm Title: 2008 beijin Olympics Post by: Rossifumi on September 07, 2004, 09:49:44 AM this is problematic. There's a power struggle over who wants to run dragonboat. The IDBF or the ICF (international Canoe Federation i think it's called).
That's probably going to be the deal breaker. |
