Kinda disappointed that there's only around 30 teams this year... especially when last year there were 29 and they've raised the price of entry by like two to three hundred dollars...

You can pick them up from my store, Johnny's Wax Pax Collectibles. The address is 3354 Dunbar Street (17th and Dunbar). I am open most days from 12:30 pm to approx. midnight except on Sundays. (604)739-0488 Thanks John Quote Racing is for 2 days on Saturday and Sunday, Sept.4 and 5. Public are invited to come and paddle on Monday, Sept. 6, 2004. Races start at 10 am and run to 3 or 4 pm each day. Only teak boats and Taiwanese boats are used in this year races. The lanes in the race course run from lane 1 starting on the south side of the Creek to lanes 4 and 5 on the north side. The lanes closest to the dock that you will be leaving from are lanes 4 and 5. We will only use lane 5(teak boats only) if it is necessary. Most of the heats uses only 4 lanes. When your boat leaves the dock, proceed down the south side of the creek toward Science World to the start area. This distance is the length(approx.) of the whole race course. Therefore, you will have time to do your last minute drills. Our turn around for each heat is about 15 to 20 minutes long. Have fun and good luck, Wing Quote The race course is 480 m. It starts at the wood pylons by Science World and finishes by the grove of trees at the Plaza of Nations. The start is a tether start. The steersperson must hold onto a tether before the starting commands. The teak boats must finish to the left of the flag in their lanes. The Taiwanese boats must have a flag grabber to pull the flag off the buoys at the end of their lanes. The first race starts at 10 am. both days. Please hand in your team roster to the registration desk at least 1 hour before your first race. We will marshall the team by the marshalling area(near the dock ramp at the lumberman's dock). Team should be at the marshalling area half an hour before their race. All paddles and lifejackets will be located down on the dock platform. I vaguely remember hearing something like that. I remember last year, one of the finals was sponsored by Telus and the winner came away with webcams for every paddler on the team. What was funny was that this wasn't for the "A Division".. I think the top tiered division were racing for... tea... :roll:

We are going to have fun races including barrel racing this year. It is recommended that the team’s representative distribute the passes at a suitable location that does not obstruct the entry of other racers and spectators to the Festival site. 3)The Award Ceremony will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Main Stage of the Plaza of Nations. Impressive medals (gold, silver, bronze) will be awarded to the each of the three top finishers of Groups A, B, C and D. In addition, the winners of Groups A and B will receive a coupon for one dozen bottles of award-winning Taiwanese beer per person (that’s 25 x 12 bottles of beer!) for the gold-medal winners only. The winners of Groups C and D will be awarded Taiwanese Cultural Festival T-shirts in addition to the gold medals. 4)Free parking is available at Ontario St. and 1st Avenue, with a shuttle bus operating between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. Because of the arrival of numerous volunteers to get the Festival set up for your events it is suggested that team members who use this parking service bring along other members and drop them off at the Plaza of Nations before proceeding to the parking lot. 5)Sign-up sheets will be available for teams and individual paddlers to take part in the Fun Races. Depending on interest and convenience, a Barrel Race will be introduced this year in which five males and five females (not necessarily from the same team) will race around three floating barrels in a prescribed pattern. 6)Volunteers from the College of Shiatsu will be on site to provide massage services on a donation basis. They will be located in the Racers’ Village. 7)On Monday September 6 dragon boat rides will be offered to the public from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. Volunteers are invited to make this introduction to dragon boating a pleasant experience. You can help by being guide paddlers (4 per boat), dock assistants, promoters, and pack-up crew. It’s also a good opportunity to enjoy the Taiwanese Cultural Festival, which has won the award for best Cultural Festival for 2001, 2002, and 2003. Sign up at the DBA booth. 8)The race grid and initial race line-up are attached in Excel file format.
