Good job by Subaru to pull it together for the final.  Also for Roli Rebels to beat Scotia for entry into the finals.  What's up with Fresh?  This result was a big let-down...

As some predicted, Gemini's were posting slower times than the 6-16s.

Times were faster using the 6-16 boats.  On average, the Gemini's were about 10 seconds slower.

My tea leaves I have a feeling that Subaru took offence of what we said about them and proved us wrong.  Good on them.
And congrats goes to Rebels for making it into the A Final.

Not sure what happened with Scotia and Fresh... Maybe Fresh didn't have their A-Roster out... You never know... they are just a bunch of kids after all... Bet you some of them couldn't get anyone to cover their McDonald's shift.

nah ... it was Burger King that wouldn't give us time off  :D

I can here their coach now "... well, we were missing 3 or 4 of our strongest paddlers...they couldn't get off the morning shift..."  


I can't believe how slow the Gemini's were.  I really don't understand the logic.  "Let's go buy some new boats that are pigs compared to our aging, waterlogged  6-16's and damn more uncomfortable. But hey, they're cheap are IDBF certified, in case we ever get to hold a world championships here..."

Every team needs a tough loss at some point, otherwise how do you improve?  You just hope it doesn't happen at something like a big Festival though.

For the record, I never discounted Specialty Subaru, I know they are front runner.  My prediction had to be based on recorded results thus far though.  As far as the dig to that team, that was only from Imposter.  It's probably not the general concensus.

I believe the difference in speed of the Gemini/6-16 can also be attributed to the length of the hull.

I've been wondering about this for awhile, but needed the Regatta to see for myself.  For example, take a snowboard, ski or skateboard.  The longer you have it, the faster you go.

I'm not an engineer, but I assume it's because the weight is more evenly distributed, you actually have less weight in any one specific spot, therefore you can go faster.

The 6-16 is a lot heavier, but you can walk up to, say a parked yacht, and push it around on the water.  The other thing to consider, is ask anyone what the two dboats feel like to paddle in, and they usually say they can't tell the difference.

Sit in the drummers seat and you'll notice the Gemini's do accelerate much more quickly during a racestart.  So the weight does make a difference there.

It doesn't seem like teams are having that much difficulty getting them up to top speed, maybe it has to do with Glide.  (y'know, that magical word whispered about).  Certainly the 6-16's must be able to glide better than the Gemini's just b/c of their length in the water.  Which beggars the question, does anyone really, I mean really know what Glide is?

Am I wrong here?  Point it out if I am, I'd really like to know too.
Anyhow, I think all this just goes to show what an excellant boat the 6-16 always were, and still is.  Someone needs to buy Vincent Lo a round of beers. msn(b)  msn(b)  msn(b)

it wasn't are fault.. we could have done much better if it hadn't been those stupid burnaby tsunami ppl who crashed into our boat during the last race. *sulks*

If you notice, Eric Hamber's times in the first and second race beat TD Lightning's time in the A final by at least 5 seconds.  If only we hadn't been hit during the final...

At least it didn't happen at Alcan, I guess.  Time to forget about this regatta and focus on the big race.

FYI: We hosted the first World Championships here in Vancouver back in '96.  Would you like to see my Racer's Pass from that year?  :lol:
