First, I want to say that Todd introduced me to dragon boating, so I give him credit for that. However, I have mentally blocked a lot of things that happened during my first year. Here’s what remains … We used to do this one finger exercise where all paddlers of the team would use their index finger to lift up a paddler. Good team-bonding exercise!?! Maybe, but we always did it at the most inappropriate time or place. During Alcan, we did it in the marshalling area. Guess who was late getting on the boat? Before the actual lift, we had to put our hands on top on the person to be lifted, “feel” the energy and recite “I believe. I believe in you and me. I believe in us and we. I believe …” The worse team-bonding exercise of all was one that we did in Kelowna. We had to lie on top of each other, overlapping to form a giant human chain. It was hot and some paddlers had really bad b.o. Needless to say, it was unpleasant.
