Title: Marathon Canoes
Post by: DBWTim on February 19, 2004, 09:15:04 AM
As many of you are aware, both FCRCC and DragonZone have marathon canoes available to their members to use.  FCRCC dragonboat team members will need to have at least the regular package, I believe... Please correct me if I'm wrong.

If you are serious about improving your technique for dragonboat, I highly recommend taking them out when you have a chance.

With the marathon's, it allows for you to develop a better connection to the water since there is only two of you paddling, you will need to learn how to effectively pull your weight through the water.  It also gives you a sense of hull speed while paddling and you'll soon learn the best rate for moving the boat. It tends to also correct your technique as well since improper technique will be reflected in strange movements in the boat... things such as lateral shifts in weight will cause the boat to rock side to side.. or even worse.. tipping the boat.

For the more advanced, it allows you to develop your off-side and help you even out your "dragonboat" physique...

Yeah... and in theory, a small marathon canoe would be able to avoid sideswiping the northern support of Burrard Street bridge..

But I agree, going from steering in a marathon to a dragonboat gives you the basics but not enough to say that anyone who can steer a marathon can steer a dragonboat.

You're an ass for bringing that up...but yeah.. I'll admit it... I was somehow involved in the three OC6, one dragonboat-collision near the south side of Cambie Street bridge on Thursday night... I don't think I can be blamed though since we were not in motion..

Does this collision top my hitting Burrard Street Bridge?  Don't worry, man.  Things on the water tend to pop out when you least expect it.  Like bridges and the floating ball sculpture thing.

 :o  :)  :(  :D    8)        :P  :x
